Brewer's Yeast
(Saccharomyces cerevisiae)

Brewer's yeast is the yeast remaining after beer making and is used as a nutrient supplement to increase the intake of B vitamins. In resent years  amino acids, proteins, and minerals have also been found in the yeast.

Racing Pigeon fanciers have used Brewer's Yeast many years as a supplement. The value to bird health and energy has been documented by many successful  flyers. The question has to be which is best? Bee Pollen, Whey or Brewer's Yeast or a combination? I am not qualified to answer that question. For myself I will setup a calendar where each day one of the subjects of this series of articles will be given to the birds. I tend to think that a combination is the answer. The intent of the articles is to provide information. The decision as to what to give your birds remains with yourself. Many of the essentials found in the supplements are also basic to the grains they are added to. A free download for a grains calculator can be found at this page.

The powder form is most potent and is one more supplement that can be added to feed grains by adding a consumable oil. 2 normal tablespoons  of oil to 1 kilo (2.20lbs) of grain. Mixing the oil with the grain first by shaking or stirring. Then adding one heaping tablespoon of brewer's yeast and mix again.

A site often used as reference when composing a page is "The health encyclopedia" A great deal of information is available on most vitamins, minerals and elements to be found in supplements. Naturally the site is directed toward human requirements and sales of supplements. I am not affiliated with the site. The link is provided as a good source of supplement information.

Hopefully the information provided will help you keep your knights of the sky healthy and result in improved performance.
