NEST BOXES

In my loft two nest fronts are used.

In the flyer's loft wire form fronts are used. See the sketch below for details on how they work. The loft is 5ft. wide which allows for three 18-1/2" long X five 14" high nest along the back wall.

The breeder's have two 4ft long sections. The boxes are 24" long X 2 wide and 5 high in one section with commercial plastic fronts. The second section has only perches.

FLYERBREEDER

If you choose to buy a commercially available nest front select the front then build the boxes to suit.

In flying section 12" wire shelving is used for the fronts. Fastened with the clips which become a hinge. They lift up and held in the open position with a 1-1/2" eye hook.

Equipping the nest with a wire tray similar to the one at this page helps to make the nest easier to clean and the Birds from walking in the droppings. 16" wide  melamine shelving available from most building material stores is ideal for box construction. The melamine will not absorb moister and is easy to clean with clorox water when its time to sanitize the box.
